The Lao Mang Lone Soup was a mystical soup created with Heylin Magic that keeps whoever that drinks it young forever. It also gives the ability to transform that person into a feral monster.

History

The Lao Mang Lone Soup made its first appearance when Chase brought it to battle claiming that he always drank a cup before victory. It was later revealed that Master Monk Guan traded Dojo with Chase for his Spear of Guan and that he had planned to turn Dojo into Lao Mang Lone Soup.

The origin Chase's contact with the soup would later be revealed when Hannibal offered the soup to Chase, who under the standard timeline drank it. Omi however traveled back in time and swapped the Lao Mang Lone Soup for pea soup, hiding the soup inside a wall in order to stop Chase from turning to evil. When he returned to the future he found out that the soup was comsumed by Master Monk Guan and not Chase instead, thus creating a world where evil took over it. Later when Omi, Chase and the monks were trapped, Raimundo tried to drink the soup to escape but Chase decided to use it since it was supposed to be his destiny.

Recipe

The recipe for the Lao Mang Lone Soup was given when Master Monk Guan told the story of Chase Young:

  • One cup of wheat grass.
  • One tablespoon of salt.
  • A pinch of dry frog.
  • One whole dragon.

The Supernatural form given by the soup

The main effect of the Lao Mang Lone soup was that it kept the user forever young. Another effect was that it turned anyone into a feral monster, with a different appearance for each person, i.e when Chase drank it he transformed into a reptilian creature but when Master Monk Guan drank it, he transformed into a giant scorpion-like monster. The continued consumption of the soup permits the user some benefit, as mentioned in the episode "Master Monk Guan", but the nature of the benefit was never specified in any of the three seasons of Xiaolin Showdown. Despite what some fans have speculated, there is no mention of a requirement to consume the soup in order for users to retain human form. Another effect was a loss of one's soul exchanged for the youth, which resulted in the formation of evil thoughts and characteristics. It is unknown how the soup would affect characters when they were drained of chi, or how the soup would affect characters who seemed to embody good and evil (the Bird of Paradise and the Ying-Ying Bird, for example).

Trivia

  • The Lao Mang Lone Soup did not get dry or evaporate as the one that Omi hid in the temple was preserved perfectly.
  • For whatever reason, Chase had an almost infinite endowment of Lao Mang Lone Soup cans in his palace.
